Bobby Jindal
Looking at Jindal’s history, it appears he is up for the job. As the son of Indian immigrants, he has lived the American Dream, and before being elected Governor of Louisiana in 2008, served as a member of the House of Representatives and Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services. During his two terms as governor, he’s led the state through some difficult situations, such as the destruction of Hurricane Gustav and the infamous B.P. oil spill. So, what’s holding him back?
Jindal is not only the least popular potential candidate nationwide, but facing a current disapproval rating of 55 percent in Louisiana. No one wants to back a candidate who can’t even win the votes of their home state, and unless Jindal can somehow turn around the steep numbers that largely resulted from his flip-flopping on Common Core, he can count himself out the race.
Nevertheless, Jindal recently recruited former senator Jim Talent and former ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton to advise him on foreign policy – a surefire move of someone who is about to run for president. Although Jindal may not pass primaries this time around, he is only 43 years old. This election season could serve as a prep course for a more serious campaign in 2020.
