According to recent polls, 53 percent of his home state says he is not fit for the job, and when vetted against Hillary, he loses by 11 percent. While the controversies of the past year have done nothing for Christie’s popularity, it’s not the only place he has gone wrong. Under Christie’s watch, New Jersey’s credit rating has downgraded eight times, $300 million in federal aid for New Jerseyans effected by Hurricane Sandy failed to be delivered, and poor planning for events such as the Superbowl have resulted in “mass transit meltdowns.”

Many believe that Christie’s upsets are due to his ambition, as he ignores state duties to focus on a potential campaign in 2016. Although 62 percent of New Jersey voters have asked him to resign if he plans to run, Christie has refused, holding fast to his infamous hardball attitude.

However, Christie’s standing wasn’t always so precarious. In 2000 he made a name for himself while campaigning for George W. Bush, who later appointed him United Sates Attorney of New Jersey. When elected Governor in 2010, it seemed that Republicans had found their new star. It is doubtful Chris Christie can make that light shine again given his most recent news coverage.
