Michele Bachmann

Unfortunately for Bachmann, next to her many strengths is a long history of bizarre beliefs, offensive comments, and a disturbing lack of facts. She has publically called President Barack Obama’s administration a “sign of the End Times,” said that singer Melissa Etheridge got breast cancer because she is a lesbian, and repeatedly proven that she does not know basic United States history. In her three terms in Congress, Bachmann never once saw a bill or resolution she sponsored pass to law.

Nevertheless, Bachmann was a candidate in 2012, but withdrew her bid after finishing sixth in the all-important Iowa state caucuses. Many were saddened by Bachmann’s 2013 announcement that she would not seek reelection for her Senate seat, but considering that her position will end in January 2015, it could be the move of someone clearing their schedule for presidential campaigning. Though it is doubtful that the G.O.P. would pick a woman candidate as their presidential nomination, they may find positioning one as vice the only viable way to attract women voters.
