New Mexico
The Democrats success in New Mexico has largely been attributed to the rising Hispanic population that has no love for the Republican Party’s hardline stance on immigration.
However, Democrats lost the majority in the New Mexico House of Representatives in the last election. The state also has a Republican governor, Susana Martinez, meaning the GOP could find some support there.
There has been speculation that choosing New Mexico State Senator Martin Heinrich to share the Democratic ticket with Hillary would certainly guarantee her a win there. It could be argued that the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julian Castro, would be a better running mate that represents the population more accurately, but that is unlikely to happen.
Hillary will probably prevail and New Mexico will continue its streak of supporting Democratic presidential nominees if she can win over the Hispanic population there.
