Mitt Romney
However, if the past two presidential elections have taught us anything, Romney won’t actually make it to the White House. The former governor of Massachusetts first tried running in 2008, but ultimately lost the bid to John McCain. In 2012 he made the ticket, but lost to Obama 51-47. Is there any hope that a third try would end differently?
Not according to Michael Gerson of the Washington Post, who said:
“Romney’s choice as the Republican nominee in 2012 will be remembered as an act of political self-harm. Romney managed to depress the enthusiasm of white working – and middle class voters in key states while also actively alienating Hispanic and Asian voters. And still, alarmingly, he was the best Republican candidate of the 2012 field. The task of the next Republican nominee is not only to transform his or her party, but also transform its appeal.”
For all that Romney lacks, he is a comfortable choice for the G.O.P. His name is familiar, his family grossly rich, and other than Jeb Bush, he is the only potential contender to put up a fight against Hillary. For these reasons, we may see Romney on the ticket again.
