Despite early polls giving Hillary a lead over her Republican rivals, North Carolina is decidedly a swing state. With the exception of President Obama’s victory there, North Carolina has voted Republican for the most part since the 1960s.

Voters replaced their Democratic governor with Republican, Pat McCrory. However, there are still slightly more registered Democratic (2.8 million) than Republican (2 million) voters and women make up 54% of the states electorate. This bodes well for Hillary, but both parties will be campaigning heavily there making North Carolina an unknown for the time being.
